We’re glad to host our very own Jasper Stadhouders, in a quartet with trumpeter Nate Wooley, saxphonist Ken Vandermark and percussionist Steve Heather.
SHELTER is a new improvised music group that features Steve Heather (drums), Jasper Stadhouders (electric guitar & bass), Ken Vandermark (reeds), and Nate Wooley (trumpet), all an essential part of the international music community. Each artist will compose music for the band, which will work as a creative cooperative, exploring individual compositional techniques and aesthetics and developing them as a quartet. In September 2015 the ensemble will come together for the first time, but the members of SHELTER already have history: Nate Wooley and Ken Vandermark have been working as a duo since 2013 and have released the album, East By Northwest; Jasper Stadhouders has been playing in Vandermark’s group, Made To Break, since the spring of 2014; and all of them have played in ad hoc combinations together. They’ve been motivated to work together on this new project because of what they’ve already seen and heard from one another, and the potential for where the music of SHELTER can go is extraordinary and unlimited.
