Rebetika, de Grieks stedelijke volksmuziek, met invloeden uit de oosterse, westerse en de locale traditionele volksmuziek, gaat onder andere over thema’s als liefde, drugs, ziekte, armoede, gevangenis, dood; maar een ironische ondertoon ontbreekt vrijwel nooit.

Charis Konstantinou (gitaar en zang) en Jaap Faber (gitaar) spelen rebetika uit de jaren ’20 en ’30, de hoogtijdagen van deze muziek. Dit doen zij met twee gitaren, het instrument dat, getuige opnames uit die tijd, meer populariteit genoot dan de bouzouki. Het resultaat geeft een puur en oorspronkelijk geluid.

Charis Konstantinou (guitar and vocals) and Jaap Faber (guitar) play rebetika from the twenties and thirties, the heydays of this music. They do this with two guitars; the instrument that, according to recordings from that time, had more popularity than the bouzouki. The result gives a pure and original sound.
